'Everyday' Makeup Routine 2023

Hey! 2023 was probably the year I've worn makeup the least since I was like, 13. I became so comfortable without it and just rarely reached for it anymore, even when going 'out out'. I still absolutely love makeup, and am already loving wearing it again more often so far in 2024, it was just one of those phases that looking back, I think it was necessary as almost a bridge between my younger selfs need for makeup to make me 'prettier' and my now-selfs enjoyment of makeup as a self-care activity, unattached from views of looking 'better' and 'worse'. Growth that I didn't even realise was taking place!

With that being said, if I were to do a realistic 'everyday' makeup routine for 2023, it would be me looking like this- no steps further steps involved hahahah.

But as that would make for a pretty pointless post, I'm going to show you the makeup I would wear on the rare occasion I'd reach for it! If I had an event or occasion I felt deserved a little more effort getting ready for, this is what I'd do! First I'd prep my skin with moisturiser and Rare Beauty's Always An Optimist Illuminating Primer. This primer really does add a glow that does wonders for my dry skin. If you have oily skin, however, this may not be your favourite product.

For the rest of my base, I'd apply the Liquid Touch Brightening concealer (Rare Beauty). I started getting hot flushes in 2023 (a fun side effect of some medical problems) so had to start concealing my cheeks a bit too, otherwise when I'd go all red, I would have apparent lines where my concealer stopped by my under eyes. My chin also goes red, which would look even weirder once I'd concealed my cheeks.

This definitely played a part in why I rarely reached for makeup, and when I did, I most often didn't wear face makeup and just did the brows and eyes parts of this routine.

Speaking of brows, I used the Rare Beauty Shape & Fill Duo. Definitely my most used product of the year and works so well for what I want from my brow products- gap filling! I use the shade 'Brown'.

Then I'd add a small amount of blush to bring some colour back into my cheeks.

I used the shade 'Hope'

For eyes, I'd use the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes mascara and the ColourpopXZoella black liner in my waterline.

Loved a waterline black liner moment in 2023

Though it pains me to say this, I was no longer a casual lipstick wearer, so that brings me to the end of my 2023 makeup routine!

Thank you for your virtual company, I do love these style yearly posts as it's interesting to look back at them all and see what I was loving/looking like at the time and what things haven't changed. I'll put a link to my old makeup routine posts below, just in case you're really bored!
