Just a little disclaimer, I am in no way dissing the brands as all of these brands also have products I love and highly recommend. I respect all of these companies, just these products have not worked for me. There's not a single brand or even person who gets things spot on all the time!
Topshop Lipstick & Cream Blush
Topshop Lipstick & Cream Blush
I'm usually a fan of topshop lipsticks, but this shade just didn't work for me. This is the shade Mercurial, a shimmery champagne nude with quite cool undertones. I can see this looking stunning on darker skin tones, but it was just so utterly unflattering on me!
When it comes to the cream blush, it was a bad choice on my part. I've never liked cream blushes in general and they never work for me! I'm sure it's lovely and would work really well for people who enjoy creme cheek products though! (I had the shade 'head over heels')
MUA Luxe Liquid Lips
I know lots of people say these are great for the price, but I find them far too drying even for under £5! My lips are actually ruined for the days following as they've had all the moisture sucked out of them! These do however go on with great pigment and not patchy, but be warned if you're still tempted, they look very dry and crumbly on the lips! Maybe okay for a makeup beginner if you can't afford anything else and aren't planning on wearing them on a day out but just want them as a start to growing your collection.
Next Make Me Beautiful Lip Bullets
The next make me beautiful makeup range is very hit and miss for me. I tried a few of their lip bullets and used them regularly for a while as the colour range is just beautiful. Unfortunately they're quite impractical to wear as they're very oily and move around so much they somehow end up everywhere!
Next Make Me Beautiful Shadow Sticks
These products come in a set of 4, and I've kept hold of two of the shades as the formula isn't terrible, just these colours are! The shade on the left claims to have golden tones when it's just an unflattering, pale pastel green, with little pigment.
Tanya Burr Glitter Liner
I got both of these Tanya Burr glitter liners in her advent calender a few years ago. When I got them out they were separated and even once I shook them and mixed them together it was just like water with a tiny bit of glitter occasionally, in no way was it a glitter liner! Was really disappointed that she put these products in her calender when they are a complete waste of money and frankly do F all!
Revolution Glosses
These glosses are what you'd expect from the low price tag. Next to no pigment, sticky formula and unflattering on the lips. There's not much else to say about these products! Also the packaging of the product on the left felt so cheap and made the gloss apply even worse!
Revolution Ultra Velour Liquid Lips
I find this very drying and patchy on my lips. They also dry down super speedy in some places, making them impossible to work with, or take hours in others leaving them very sticky! I love you revolution but it's a no from me even with the cheap price tag!
Maybelline Mascaras
Just gonna put it out there.. I cannot stand maybelline mascaras. Yes, they give your lashes quite a nice look and apply the volume and length evenly, but the cons make the pros simply not worth it. The plastic applicators are cheap and uncomfortable, the wands are too large to do your lower lashes without ruining your whole makeup look and once the product has dried on your lashes, it turns them solid. My lashes are aching at the end of the day and they're such a bugger to get off! If even the smallest bit remains on the lashes, that will hurt until it's off. Would not recommend. Just go get a mini better than sex for the same price!
Lottie London Brushes
The picture of this brush speaks for itself. Don't be fooled by the adorable design, the top of the brush has come off on both Lottie London brushes I own! I can't even jam it on as the metal end is so loose!
Real Techniques Brow & Foundation Brush
Though I'm not obsessed with real techniques brushes, I can usually find a use for them and therefore space for them in my collection.. not so much with these two. The brow brush is just far too thick and large for even my brows, and it doesn't even pick up a satisfactory amount of product. And for the foundation brush... it's just dreadful. It's streaky as hell for any sort of liquid or cream products, and too finely packed and strangely textured for any powder. It's not even like I can find a use for these products that isn't what they're designed for! They're bad for any purpose!
Benefit Mascara's and Porefessional Primer
I've gotta put this out there.. I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of benefit products. I love their brow products and their blushes, but other than that, I haven't tried anything else I really like. Pore-fessional just did not work for me. It made my foundation sit funny and didn't exactly work wonders with my pores to make up for that. There mascaras seem to work wonders for my sister and look truly amazing, but for some reason I just cannot stand them. They are rock solid on my lashes and give me a headache from how much they hurt my lashes! I am in no way writing off their products for good and will keep trying more and get back to you! I will be even more willing to try out their stuff if they made their brand cruelty free.. just saying!
MUA Lipsticks
I'm not sure if this was just a one off, but everytime you twist this lipstick up it scrapes a layer of the side and makes a nasty squeaking noise! The product itself smelt like plastic and applied in a sticky formula so I didn't feel the need to go back and repurchase another to see if the packaging was a one off or bad in all! Bad all round!
Ted Baker Lipstick
I found this so oily that it would end up all over my face within ten minutes of application! The paler shade was a lot better, but this one is a big no from me!
Kardashian Khroma Gloss
I didn't hold too much hope for these as they are from a Kardashian covered range, but I didn't expect it to be unusable! The smell of 'honey' which is a theme throughout all the lip products in this range is just unbearable. It's so overpowering and like having actual strong honey all over your lips!
Tanya Burr Glitter Pot
Another product from a Tanya Burr calender. This is a glitter pot where the flecks of glitter so so thick and cheap, I don't recommend putting them anywhere near your eyes even with glue. Again, I just don't understand how she is okay with sticking her name on a sh*te product and whacking it in with the others just because it's an advent calender. It seemed like she didn't care for the quality of any of the products that were 'exclusive' to the calender which is really unfair as the promise of exclusive products was the main reason why I bought the calender!
NYX Soft Matte Lipcreams (only in certain shades)
NYX's soft matte lip creams are probably my favourite drug store formula for the lips, and I own about 5 different shades which I adore, but the shade 'Tokyo' is not one! The pale pink colour sinks into the cracks into your lips yet doesn't have very good coverage on the rest! It's also a much more watery formula than the other shades I've tried and certainly less pigmented.
Soap & Glory 'Lid Stuff' Palette
Compared to most of the products on this list, I've actually used this one a lot. It's been in my collection for several years and have only been put aside once I discovered other matte shades that put this one to shame! It's powdery, not very pigmented and has a lot of fallout on your face. It's a no from me!
Revolution Colour Correcter Palette
I know a few people who swear by this, but it just didn't work for me! It also didn't dry down matte so would just move around when I tried to apply foundation on top of it. It also got really icky and messy really quickly which grossed me out.
Revolution Redemption Palettes
If you've read any of my other posts, this one might shock you! I tend to swear by revolution shadows and the majority of them are my fave palettes from the drugstore.. just not these. The pigmentation of the redemption palettes are next to nothing, or swatch okay then blend to nothing a few seconds later. The matte shades swatch powdery, if anything, then again blend to nothing. I don't know why the formula of these are so bad but I really don't like them! If you are considering picking them up as you've heard such good things about revolution shadows and these are some of the most affordable.. don't do it. Save up a couple more pounds and invest in a Soph palette, or an Ultra Eyes!
